Luis (Tito) Campos is a global environmental and sustainability expert with almost three decades of international experience in mining and sustainability.

With a diverse background in environmental and social responsibility at gold and copper mining operations and projects, he has held different leadership positions at site, regional and corporate levels, including Regional Vice-President for Environmental and Socials Responsibility in South America for Newmont Mining Corporation and Group Executive (Worldwide) of Sustainability and External Relations.

His vast experience and exposure to a variety of locational, environmental and social conditions provides SmartAccEss clients with insight and solutions to successfully manage environmental and social issues throughout the entire mine life cycle (i.e. exploration, project, construction, operation and closure).

As a consultant, Mr. Campos has conducted environmental and social audits in gold, copper and coal mining operations and projects throughout the Americas including Peru, Argentina, Chile, Suriname, Honduras, Nicaragua, República Dominicana, Guyana, Colombia, Panama, Mexico, Mauritania, USA and Canada. These audits were conducted at sites at different stages of the mine life cycle. The scope of the audits varied between environmental and social management systems, management of social commitments and obligations, due diligence evaluations for financial purposes, reclamation activities and closure cost estimates as well as audits against the International Cyanide Management Code (ICMI), and assessments against Bettercoal Code and Copper Mark.

He is an accredited lead and technical expert auditor for the International Cyanide Management Code (ICMC) and a National Registry of Environmental Professionals (NREP) Certified Environmental Auditor. He has experience assessing projects against many standards such as those of the IFC and the World Bank.

His technical expertise spans environmental and social matters, including water management, monitoring programs, air quality, closure and reclamation, legal compliance, permitting, waste management, development of global standards and procedures, implementation of environmental and social management systems, conflict resolution, social investment, technical due diligence evaluations, third-party reviews, complex project management,  strategy and planning, auditing/assurance and multicultural management

Mr. Campos is fluent in both Spanish and English and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry from the highly-respected National Agrarian University La Molina in Lima, Peru. He has also completed specialized coursework in Business Management and Corporate Social Responsibility from the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business and Harvard Business School. He has worked for more than 28 years in mining operations and projects in Latin America and clearly understands the complexities related to environmental, social and permitting matters.
